Second Campaign: «United for Our Forest Heroes»
With the goal of laying the groundwork for a Sustainable Taxonomy for Bolivia, more than 45 institutions from the public, private, financial, international cooperation, and environmental conservation sectors participated in the Workshop “Sustainable Taxonomy: Prioritization of Economic Sectors”, held on October 22 at the Hotel Camino Real in La Paz.
The event marked a key milestone in the national participatory process aimed at guiding financial flows toward economic activities that promote Bolivia’s environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This initiative stems from the dialogue spaces known as “Green Thursdays – Cafés with Purpose”, promoted by Fundación PROFIN and Développement international Desjardins (DID), through which thematic priority areas were identified as the foundation for building the future taxonomy.
During the workshop, six thematic working groups were formed, each led by institutions with extensive experience in their respective fields:
- Mitigation, led by Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF)
- Adaptation, led by FAO – RECEM VALLES Project
- Biodiversity, led by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)
- Gender, led by Fundación PRO MUJER – IFD and DID
- Financial Inclusion, led by Fundación PROFIN
- Circular Economy, led by SWISSCONTACT
Each working group analyzed and prioritized economic sectors that could be considered sustainable in the Bolivian context, generating key inputs for defining the technical and strategic criteria that will guide the creation of the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy.
The participation of government authorities, financial institutions, international organizations, and environmental entities demonstrated a strong commitment and shared vision regarding the importance of developing a national tool to channel investments toward activities that foster sustainable development.
As an outcome of the workshop, participants agreed to produce a systematized report summarizing the findings and conclusions of each working group. This document will be shared with the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) and the Financial System Supervisory Authority (ASFI), serving as an essential input for designing a national roadmap for sustainable finance.
This process highlights Bolivia’s leadership in the region by fostering a collaborative, cross-sectoral approach and promoting a vision of inclusive, green, and responsible finance that positions sustainability as a central pillar of national development.
